Los Aldeanos leads the new generation of rebel music in Cuba. Since 2003, this collective has operated from within the limits of a tyrannical dicatatorial regime and conscious hip-hop records that Fidel and his henchmen. It is music that reflects a hunger, suppressed, but still deep musical Cuba.This Sunday, the crew makes her first stateside concert appearance thanks to the city of Doral by Gisela Hidalgo and President Obama the relaxing of American politics to cultural exchanges with the Cuban Government.
We spoke with documentary filmmaker, Havana's own Iskander (AKA Alejandro Moya) about what this music for the people. See the cut for a collection of his comments.
"The music gives hand.The youth, non-professionals, most of them ... they rip, passing hand to hand.
"It's like an alternative internet that in Cuba.A lot of information in Cuba is in this way passed. it is a viral thing, this method of transmission of information in Cuba.
"The origin of hip hop as a social phenomenon is similar in Cuba as it is to the United States.
"It's called in Cuba, hip-hop consciencia and the most vocal members of this movement are Los Aldeanos, Silvito el Libre, Escuadron Patriota.They are in a beautiful moment of such great creativity that they change color of the country.
"This productive young filmmakers and composers, they are so many young people mobilize, and forgive my repetition, but they are changing the national consciousness of the country. They want to build something positive in Cuba. The origin of which is conscious hip-hop.
"Los Aldeanos and Silvito el Libre are a national emblem and the thousands of followers in Cuba have been an incredible voice. And it is through their own distribution and promotion that all underground. This is more powerful, more real and stronger than the Ministry of culture in Cuba.
"There is a new revolution in Cuba.The fate of this revolution? Who knows. nobody knows. For us is the inevitable outcome victory. For those of us who take part in this, the only thing on our minds for this movement victory. It's a revolution that is spontaneous, of course, with historical inevitability because the young people who are 20-something years old in Cuba do honor to the history of their country.
"The youth want something else. They have all the preparation they are scholars. They have all the schools.They are ready for something different, something much bigger.
"After this tour, where they are aware of the United States itself, they go back to Cuba. We are not immigrants. we are the people who live in Cuba. We left Cuba and we go back to Cuba. This is not a program for immigration.They are going back to Cuba. I go to Cuba.
"They are number one in Cuba.The music is not on Cuban radio. it is not on television. But it is still the most listened to music they listen to Los Aldeanos in all parts of the country, all through hand. They are the most popular artists of Cuba.
"There's something very Cuban on Exchange of music, and songs. So Cuban hip-hop is entirely rooted in sharing songs and in seeing them live.
"There are clandestine concerts on the island.In lugares del esato Sin permiso del estado.Able locations without the consent of the State.
"Cine acapulco ... they did a show, like, four months ago for the first time ever. Without promotion, but it sure took the people by storm. There were people waiting outside just to listen to what people had to say about what they heard.
"You have to see it to believe it. It changes the whole panorama.
"And it's almost all by word-of-mouth. And it's all over the country.It all starts with the mobile phone. Not.The phone.The landline. In Cuba, the communication system on another form.We have more restrictions than many places in the world.But the reality is that information travels with an amazing speed, and the people quickly mobilize.Is referred to as the other.
"A crowd of hundreds of can collect from one moment to the next.
"It is an organization which happens without system.But it works.And the network that needs to be made, transcends geography.It's going to Miami.It comes to Europe. without a doubt, it happens.
"I can tell you one thing: when the mass of people behind conscious Cuban hip-hop to today the Plaza de la Revolucion wouldn't there is enough space for all of them in Havana. There is nothing bigger than this happens in Cuba now.There is nothing more popular than this.
"This is real.It is not manufactured by the media.The youth is almost religiously devoted to this movement.
"It is interesting because the people in these aren't drunk. they are not doing Drugs. events are basically pacifist in nature, although the numbers so vigorously that seems to be the violent for the outsider are portrayed. in reality, the concerts high, sublime and peaceful.
"It's incredibly emotional. shows 14 november in Dade County Auditorium. There is no other way to describe it. it is something so lyrically. the decision is so deep that you don't even know the difference between the artist and the crowd know. There is no separation. it is a total connection. the difference between the crowd and the rapper does not exist.
"Miami is the most important place that los Aldeanos games can because the Cuba, because it is so full of Cubans. If in Cuba not playing for the Cuban people, or in Miami. they can do this without a problem.
"And it's been a reflection of the decrepitude. With all the wealth that is there, you can not deny the viccissitudes of a Cuban butchery. young people are the alarm."
